I waited for a particular point which I was expecting at about 5.45pm when the sun had descended so that it sent shafts of light down through the trellis archway.
Just before it sinks down behind the castle to make way for the dusk, the sun gives a final flourish as bolts of light skim over our heads and the summer evening says goodbye with flair and a dazzling flare. It is late August and we know that this farewell could be more than just a goodbye till tomorrow, but a goodbye till next year. But this last heraldic glow is a promise that it will be back.
