Lover's Lullaby

Lay your head down in my lap, lover,
And I will draw my fingers ’cross your brow,
Dismiss the rude distractions at the door.
Give yourself over to my hands,
Curtain your eyes and rest awhile,
Somnolent in a sea of gentle peace.
Forget the harsh world waiting,
Slumber sweetly here with me.

Lay your head down in my lap, lover,
Let me caress your cares and hurts away,
O melt into my warmth, securely held.
Allow the luxury of love
To wash across your sentient self,
Renewing from the inside out your strength.
Your soul a lush field, verdant,
Slumber sweetly here with me.

Lay your head down in my lap, lover,
And gentle lips will rain soft kisses sweet
Upon each tender place that yearns for love;
To soothe it smooth and whole again.
Away with Trouble’s knotted vise,
No more to bind or worry you this day.
My arms safe shelter, waiting,
Slumber sweetly here with me.
