To a Mermaid

I’ve seen you swimming in the tide
full flood in moonlit radiance,
your face a mask as if in trance,
dark sorrows shrouding your swift glide.

You cannot see the symmetry
that graces you all serpentine,
and makes of you the dazzling queen
of Neptune’s fluid barony.

You’ve lived in murky depths too long,
seashadows dim your brilliant glow,
the time is now for you to show
the beauty of your sirensong.
