flaming out (dying star)

my head is full of words,
my body holds desire.
my heart – ah, that’s the key.
it floods with hope that then recedes
as quickly as the sucking breath
of one of those great waves
that rocks the oceans.
there’s not enough of
the hydrogen of sanity,
the helium of love
to sustain it anymore.
it flares in giant bursts –
emotions that cannot be sustained
but coalesce instead
into that heavy element,
despair.
i am a dying star.
watch me as i flame out,
but be quick or you’ll see nothing
but the black dwarf left behind.
