Vita Redux

I woke today and you were gone,
no trace of pain could I feel,
you’d taken the pillow you rested on
along with the Catherine Wheel.

The sun streamed bright across my bed
as carefully all around
I poked and prodded my heart, soul and head,
no bruises or bumps I found.

Where once dwelt sorrow blue and deep
a soft new greenness awakes,
a glimmer of fullness mayhap, to reap,
to give as much as it takes.

And though forget you I shall not
you’ve taken your proper place:
a lesson in living I had forgot,
a fantasy fall from grace.

I woke today and you were gone,
my vision restored to me,
the colors returned to the breaking dawn,
the universe mine to see.
