Yonder peasant, who is he,
Where and what his dwelling?

~ from the old carol Good King Wenceslaus

Always one of my favorite Yuletide carols, Good King Wenceslaus, a 10th-century ruler of Bohemia, exemplifies the Golden Rule.

This is my slightly anachronistic interpretation of that peasant’s hut, shown the moment the royal page opens to door to admit the king with his gifts of food and fuel.

Many thanks, Stephanie, I exaggerated the textures to provide both age and to accentuate the classical lighting.
