Classical study of a grouping of apples.
These are Pinova apples, originally bred in Germany from the old varietals Cox’s Orange Pippin and Duchess of Oldenburg, then crossed with Golden Delicious.
Sold under the trademark name of Piñata (a combination of Pinova and Sonata, an alternative appellation) by one Washington State grower, Stemlit, there are independent orchards who have retained the right to cultivate and sell this apple under its original name.
