The title of this piece is based on one of my memories from many years ago. When my first husband and I decided to look for a larger and older home in our small town, one real estate agent showed us a turn of the century mansard-roofed house that was full of charm and possibilities, but the scope of the needed updates was way beyond our pocketbook. I have never forgotten our tour of that house, which the agent said was “The Lemon Sisters’ House”, so called because two elderly sisters had been born and lived there all their lives. The sisters had made two separate living quarters, one on each floor of the house, each with its own kitchen and bathroom as well as two or three other rooms.
