A cluster of ripening figs hangs temptingly on the tree. When I was a child, my Uncle Sal – the original ‘Mr. Natural’ – had a large and lush fig tree in his wonderful garden. It was a rare mark of favor, when the figs were ripe, to be invited to pick one right off the branch and gobble it up. Some of my fondest memories stem from the beauty of Uncle Sal’s garden.
