What’s left of branching flowerets surrounding a healthy looking pod. They give me the impression of a hula skirt on a hula dancer. Captured by the side of my home in Largo, Florida, USA. This is a variety of Jatropha, and the pods are used for biofuel. Farming of them is getting more popular. This is amazing Randi. The name is so apt. The pod in the middle resembles a fig. Lovely capture. Are these edible?

  • Hi, Laureen-don’t think so-mostly just a flower pod, i think. The flower clusters are very cute, with the single flowers looking like little bulbs before they open up. The name of this plant always comes and goes with me! I’ll name it eventually and try to put it on this page. This is at least my third capture of this bush in the last few years. One image I used for a Christmas card.

I know that feeling. I have tried to capture a bush with tiny little flower clusters just like these and just cannot get it to look halfway decent on camera. The clusters are too tiny or something. You have done a great job on this image.

  • Thanks for your kind comments!!

  • Thank you so much! Your “Horse of a different color” is amazing! You could have even more fun with it and cut it out as a stand-alone. It would make a lovely individual image, I am sure. If you wish to collaborate-let me know.
