The lament of the children of Bast

Originally written 03/04/03…Bast is an ancient Egyptian cat goddess, the Egyptians believed that cats were sacred and that they carried a piece of the sun with them because their eyes glow in the dark.

In the old sands I danced on silent pads and lent the world my casual indifference.

I watched them weave their lives, I walked in and out of them as I chose. I gave them my presence and I gave them acceptance of theirs.

I prowled into the night, light and ferocity my weapons, and I protected them from the demons that they created for themselves.

I taught them the elegance of grace, and I taught them the beauty of arrogance. I taught them that their lives were enriched for knowing us.

And now their tribes are at war and their guardians are lost to them becuse all too often they forget the pact that was made.

They forget that a cat was always meant to crush the serpent between its jaws.

They forget that luxury and decadence was always a cat’s prerogative.

And they forget that no claws rake deeper than a cat who has been forsaken.
