I took this photograph over 30 years ago in Ohio with my Yashica Mat 124 using Tri-X film. It caught my eye because it was the oldest building in the area. It was obviously in need of repair but it reminded me of when life was perhaps simpler. One could go this store and purchase a gallon of milk, bread and a maybe a soda pop to drink on the way home. You knew everyone in the store and they knew you! I miss those times.

Boy this sure brings back the memories. Great image!

  • Thanks! Glad it brought back memories for you also. I’m from the Akron area. I love your barn pictures. I always try to find some old ones to photograph when I am back there. They are getting harder to find though. You have some beauties.

I love this! This one reminds me of the old general store my grandmother worked in many years ago in a small town in Arkansas. The good old days. Grandma would let us pick out a toy when we came to visit. We would shop for hours trying to pick it out.

  • Thanks Lisa! Glad it brought back memories for you! Do you still have the toys???

I lived in Akron from 64 to 71. Ellet area still have family there. Never did like the city though, except to visit. Next time you’re back home looking for barns try Tuscarawus & Guernsey counties you’ll find them as soon as you hit the skinny roads.

  • I may be flying back to Ohio in October. Thanks for the info!

Unfortunately, no the toys were sold in garage sales many, many, years ago. I will always have the memories though. I love it when I see things we used to have at “The Cracker Barrel” or somewhere that sells vintage toys. Remember the toys made of wood, tied together with elastic string so when you push in the platform on the bottom they dance around? I remember “Wooly Willly” too, it comes with a magnet pen, and you move metal shavings around to give him a beard. The good old days.
