Il Gobbo (The Hunchback)
Oil on Canvas
August 13 1942.
After days and nights of eluding submarines, E-Boats and enemy aircraft MS Dorset comes to a dramatic end.
Holed and sinking it is dead in the water.
Straddled by bombs and abandoned by it’s crew it wallows helplessly nearly within sight of its destination.
A dreaded Savoia Marchetti SM79 Sparvero Torpedo Bomber comes in for the kill.
Known as il Gobbo (The hunchback) it flies low and slow. The outcome hardly questioned.
