Brilliant work, Vonne. The story you shared is so very sickening and heartbreaking. I can’t imagine even ‘spanking’ a child, let alone go so far as to cause their death. And then, yes, there’s the neglect and abuse. I could go crazy thinking about it. Many years ago I stopped reading the newspapers or watching the news on TV as it caused me so much grief. I KNOW horrible stuff happens, but it was getting that way that I just couldn’t read or watch yet another soul-destroying story. That doesn’t mean I don’t hear about or see such things, it just means I don’t go seeking it. I work for the Department of Human Services (not in ‘child protection’ though), and sometimes it seems they’re damned if they do and damned if they don’t. It is such a hard job and I couldn’t do it – no way. It is NOT that they don’t care, but the lack of budget and resources. It’s criminal that governments don’t give ENOUGH to put the right people in the right places so that children can be cared for adequately and in a timely manner. Sorry about the rant, sweetie – it’s very close to my heart! ♥

My stomach has just dropped out of my body ! I am sick that people can be allowed to do this sort of thing. I dont apologise for saying that the do-gooders in this world are destroying the ethics that our forefathers strived to attain. I am all for zero tolerance and the death penalty for causing death to a child or even any human being. Meanwhile, we must pay for these sicko’s to live in prison. This makes me so angry ! I even invite anyone who can defend people like this to mail me or state a case for protection of child killers here. Right now im off my soapbox, This is a brilliant image and really hits home, Very powerful !

Very powerful work. I completely understand how you feel. This kind of thing happens all the time…and yet the state and county departments that are supposed to be watching out for the well being of the children somehow find plenty of time to harass people who haven’t done anything wrong, while ignoring the kids who are actually in danger. It’s completely insane.

Sorry bout the late reply. I hear someone say something about human rights. What human rights ? Why should you give a pig any rights ? Listen, If anyone claims human rights are to be obeyed, as far as i see it, They are defending a murderer. Zero tolerance. In the old days they had proper punishments, Abolish prisons, knock them down, Create compounds ( hell there are plenty left over from the wars) construct cages and put them in there. They can eat and go to the toilet in there, just like they do to animals in dog compounds, And clean them out once per day. No tv, no 3 course meals, no fags, no drugs, no edutaction, No training of any sort. Whats that, being a bit hard am I. I have a right, i pay the buggers to stay there, so i am the landlord. God i am so angry, But i do apologise, i think it is good an image can bring about so much words.

have heard this story before, and similar ones like it… i love this image… i think it shows how abuse/neglect changes people and how they are affected… the hiding in homes.. feeling TRAPPED as the little girl and young men turning to drugs/selling and the streets… powerful message, glad you use your art for a message… this is great great work

powerful work,,,,, here in Australia, its just been revealed that a girl had been raped by her father for 30 years, the relevant authorities had known the family for years, yet did nothing to stop the horrid abuse. Sometimes I just cant watch the news anymore,,, society has gone mad, there is no social justice anymore, and people just dont care. One of the neighbours of this girl stated that she had thought the child was being abused, but it wasnt her place to put in a concern to the authorities?? Do people care anymore???

Good work Vonne. Seems the love has gone. The world seems an out-of-control selfish place, now.

punishment for causing the death of a human is to be put to death
plain and simple
and in order to satisfy the law properly and to avoid any miscarriage of justice
give the convicted access to every legal resource possible, to prove their innocence, yes it would be expensive, but for SEVEN years allow the convicted to pursue their innocence, seven years to the day from conviction, having not proved their innocence, they die,

given every resource possible, this would cut down the chances of the innocent being wrongly put to death

it would however have the impact of knowing for the guilty the exact date of their death

as for human rights, the minute someone removes the rights of another human by klilling them they remove their own human rights and should suffer the consequences

No amount of sadness can assuage the pain of this child, no anger can right the wrong. Those of us in this ‘room’, stunned by a mentality that allows it to happen, says very simply, children, victims, don’t matter. It is repugnant, sickening, and outrageous. The chain of people directly responsible?

You made a strong statement with your heart channeled through this image, More than that, ‘Hide’ represents the dark side of society that rumbles beyond the reach of so many of us who have the sense to care. And those who have the capacity and legal obligation? My mind and soul fail me at this point….Dry tear ducts and shock.

This is the problem, in other countries though some of the ways we consider barbaric have such strick laws like if caught stealing they get their hand cut off and so on. The BIG reason we do not have stricter laws and this is the absolute truth and I am sure I will offend many is religion. We can’t have the death peanlty because its not christian or we can’t do that it’s not christian. And believe me I could go on and on about the hypocrites in our society. Who can’t think for themselves and are brainwashed. Give me run and I believe an eye for an eye. that person who beat him to death needs to be beaten to death. These sickos and child molesters and people who abuse and sell kids all need to have what was done to those kids done to them or worse. If we do not get mean it will NEVER stop. Your image vonne is so powerful and I have first hand knowledge I cme from a family of abuse and have a brother who died of it. Right to the heart!

You’ve touched a nerve here – I am upon this soapbox at least once per week (same passion for animal welfare); There’s no grey area here … Death penalty to all who do such things. I noted day before yesterday (I think) that legislation for mandatory castration for Paedophiles in Poland … done deal. One down, many more to go.

This is such a powerful story. Just reading all of the comments, I can see how it affects people to even think about it. My heart is so heavy at the thought of someone filled with that kind of anger that they don’t even realize what they are doing. Please don’t mistake this for sympathy for the person who did this. But in my heart I don’t believe that a person could possible be in their mind at all. It is such a wonderful piece Yvonne…...well done!!
