A mystical Aboriginal-styled depiction of the Australian Goanna features in this neo-primitive design. Goannas are a type of monitor lizard and are a very significant element in Australian Aboriginal Dreamtime and desert mythology. They also make great back-garden pets if allowed to roam freely without hindrance from dogs etc. They are an intelligent and at times, very amusing addition to many Australian rainforest properties.

This design was first hand-painted onto rock then photographed to produce this print effect, “Goanna Dreamtime” is one of my earliest works in the 3D painting medium I created a few years ago.

Thanks for viewing my work. ~ Skye

Love the style – the intricate, mosaic like texture and vibrant, warm colours! Very nice work indeed!

  • Thanks Krys. Neo-primitive artforms are a favourite subject for inspiration, for me. So pleased you like this one. ~ Skye

What an interesting image. I love the warm colours. I love lizards myself, having had a fantastic Iguana for a few years when I was younger. They make loving pets! Val :)

A pet Iguana? That’s very cool. So hopefully having enjoyed one as a pet, you don’t now suffer from a reptile dysfunction? hehehe… Your Iggy sounds adorable. Thanks for the fun comments Val. :o-)

That is wonderful art the simplicity of style , yet a complex pattern within. fantastic

  • Hi CJ, yes indeed, with Aboriginal expression, it can appear simplistic and yet a complex mythology surrounding the symbols and elements dwells within each work of art. Often, such pointillist paintings are virtually maps of the desert and depict concepts like hunting and the Creation etc. A surprisingly spiritual people considering the harshness of their desert environment. ~ Skye

Beautifully inspirational work- in a reply above you mention the spirituality of the inhabitants of harsh environs. I feel that the conditions induce a heightened spiritual awareness as the line between life and death, success and failure is so thin in those areas and the intensity of existence can bring one closer to the spiritual source… not worded well, as I’m overtaxed by work duties lately, but I think you will understand what I’m trying to express in a clumsy way. Thank you, my, for sharing your spirit and your peace here on rb.

  • Oh I totally agree with you there. The more intense the adversity, the more cultures look to a higher power for solace, comfort, explanation etc. Yes indeedy. Sometimes though, when the surroundings are very difficult to endure, one marvels that the people have time for anything but survival. The mighty human spirit is so indomitable! Cheers! Skye
