This recent digital painting is directly modelled on a photograph of one of two rare White Ravens hatched on Vancouver Island in May, 2008.
Known by the Haida First Nations people as “Spirit Ravens”, these two wonderful birds were hatched along with 3 black siblings to two accepting Raven parents. What a thrill it was to watch them fly as my friend and I took hundreds of photos and some fun video footage of these rarities.
Spirit Ravens are not albino, although they resemble them from a distance. This pair are known as leucistics. These birds actually have blue eyes and are every bit as mischievous as their black counterparts.~ Skye ~
