"Forbidden Mists"

The mystical slopes of Forbidden Plateau on Vancouver Island BC, Canada, harbour a secret. Anciently it is said that an entire tribe of people who were pursued by their enemies, disappeared forever into the sacred mists high up on the plateau. A powerful legend that still thrives today.

Part proceeds from this photograph help benefit the Prince Rupert Wildlife Rescue Shelter. Thank you for helping the animals.

Excellent one…looks like a place I would like to hang out in for a bit.

  • Skye Ryan-Evans replied

Hi there, yep me too, in fact I spotted my very first Black Bear here. Some guy’s large dogs had treed it, and the man was worried about the Mother Bear turning up, so he wouldn’t go down the hill to call his dogs off the little cub. I ended up going down there and doing it for him. I never saw the Mother Bear but the little guy sure seemed happier when he scrambled down again about 30 mins later, after the dogs had departed.

I have a real problem wtih people who walk their dogs off-leash in wilderness areas. I stayed in a cabin near this spot for a month and it was incredible! The fog muffled sound and I was absorbed and isolated into this beautiful world of soft greens and creaking trees. I’ll never forget it. ~ Skye

Beautiful image, Skye…any chance you felt or heard the presence of the tribe’s spirits that
were protected by the mist so long ago? I always believe there is at least some truth to legends…

  • Skye Ryan-Evans replied

Hi Kate, I think there is often truth to such myths as well. Stranger things have happened. Here on Vancouver Island where I have lived for 7 years (7 years ago today, to be exact), I have always felt a strong spiritual pull from this area. I have wanted to live here since I was a 7 yr old kid in NZ, so the pull has been a strong one lol

oh my skye I wish I had the cash to purchase a large framed version of this from you .. so beautiful and it reminds me of a friend whose love of BC and Vanc. Island almost brought me there two years ago … sadly just before housing was confirmed he had a heart attack and died .. I lost not only a close friend but also a dream so close to becoming … I no longer live in the PNW since work on the coast is practically non existent but my heart still lives amongst the trees and mist …

  • Skye Ryan-Evans replied

There’s lots of work in BC! We have this print on our living room wall and it’s a lot like looking out of a window. :o-) I love it! I even had Zazzle make a mouse pad out of it for me lol

Thanks for your comments, I always appreciate your sharing with me. :o-)

  • Skye Ryan-Evans replied

Thank you CJ. I never see fog or mist as an impediment to photography, I see it as a natural filter. Was lucky this particular day, I think. :o-)

  • Skye Ryan-Evans replied

Thanks Ding, so happy the little description added to the image for you. It’s an amazing myth and I felt the photo really fitted the tale especially as it is of the exact area where the tribe was said to have been absorbed by the mist, centuries ago.

What a wonderful image, love the quite looking Trees and the lovely fog, excellent. That was so nice of you to rescue the little Cub.

  • Skye Ryan-Evans replied

Hi Rosalie, thank you for your kind comments. Re the bear cub, it wouldn’t be much of a forest without the wildlife, so I had to do something, right? lol

This for me is the perfect picture :)

  • Skye Ryan-Evans replied

That’s a lovely thing to say Felicity. Thank you. It’s a scene I enjoy very much as well. I love the idea of looking at a photograph or a really good painting, and making myself believe it is a window instead, and the view I see is where I live. Fortunately my home is very close by this scene, so I am doubly blessed. ~ Skye
