"Dare To Be Different" (Rare White Raven)
“DARE TO BE DIFFERENT” makes the perfect gift for the independent individual in your life. Could that be you?
The image features a photograph of a real White Raven (also known as a “Spirit Raven” by local Haida people) born in May, 2008 on Vancouver Island, B.C., Canada. He is one of two rare white and 3 black Ravens born to 2 accepting (black) parents. The two rare birds are not albino which is what makes them so unusual. Their eyes are quite blue. All 5 siblings are getting along extremely well and all are thriving.
White Ravens are very rare and hold sacred meaning for many groups and cultures throughout the World, including Native American Indian, Celtic, Norse and Wiccans. This artwork is another tribute to these remarkably intelligent and friendly birds. 50% proceeds from all sales go to the Mountainaire Avian Society in the beautiful Comox Valley on Vancouver Island.
"Dare To Be Different" (Rare White Raven) belongs to the following groups:

Hello my Friend, you’re most welcome. :o-) They are so entertaining to view (Black or White Ravens). We so enjoyed capturing their antics on video as well as via our Olympus eVolt cameras. The 5 sibliings flew upwards spontaneously, far above us and played “dogfights” for over 40 mins right after this photo was taken. The two whites were every bit as talented as fliers and leaders as their 3 siblings. We followed their progress for a few months after we discovered them (by hearing about them on the local news). It was a life-changing experience to see them on each visit we made there. They are so intelligent and full of personality. :o-)

huninn and muninn .. odin’s two spirit birds .. thought and memory … (smile)
look what I found …
Three rare white ravens rescued from death’s clutch
the article suggests those three were rejected by their clan and also there is something wrong with their genes .. hmmpf .. could be but I wouldn’t call it wrong .. and as for the clan rejecting them .. my first thought was that there must be more pressures on survival in their neighborhood than on Vancouver Island …
Skye Ryan-Evans replied
I think the Norse Gods would have approved of these two large Spirit Ravens :o-)

ps I think the wildlife manager there really doesn’t know her birds …. she stated that she believed they were attacked by other crows …. they cousins but ravens are not crows …

Wonderful! I love ravens, they are such wonderful birds. Australian Ravens make different sounds to those in the Northern Hemisphere: I was listening to some out the back of my dad’s place in Perth and one in particular seemed to be reciting poetry in its own language. Well, that’s the impression I was struck with: it seemed to have metre and even stanzas, the way it was cawing.
A couple of months ago, before I even knew there were white ravens, I wanted to take one of my raven pictures and make it white. I haven’t the skill or maybe the software for that. Later, I rented the DVD of a film called Mongol, a Russian film about Genghis Khan. Once, many years ago, when I used to go to a group in Perth (I now live in Sydney) for meditation and the like…well, a couple of the people there used to channell and one told me that I had been Genghis Khan in a past life. Who knows – maybe I thought, though I was not keen on being a former warlord type. But watching the video, I found out that Genghis Khan’s symbol was a white raven so that made me wonder. He had the wishbone of one on a cord.
It’s wonderful that these creatures exist, though.
Oh, great shot by the way. Birds can be hard work for the camera.
Skye Ryan-Evans replied
My 20 years in Australia brought me into frequent contact with Crows and Magpies. I didn’t spy as many Ravens in the parts where I lived. The vocalizations of all in the Corvid family is very entertaining alright! lol Thanks so much for the additional information too. That’s so intriguing about the great Mogul. Blessings to you, Skye :o-)

great shot
- would love to see one of these given all of their lore and special attributes applied to them -there is a wild leucistic desert lark hanging around where I live for the last 4 years, I am amazed that something so visible and so different can survive in the wild – glad you posted this—daveSkye Ryan-Evans replied
Thanks for your insight David. It’s amazing how both the white Ravens in this family are accepted and thriving. There seems to be a real natural tolerance here for these wonders. I enjoyed your information about the Desert Lark. So interesting! Cheers! Skye :o-)

You are so very much welcome. :) :)

I have the rare privilege of caring for a 2 year old Chihuahuan Raven at a small Zoo. She was taken from the wild by person who thought it would be “cool” to have as a pet.
Qouth, or Q ,has white feathers under her black feathers. Since she trusts me enough to stroke her ,I can ruffle up the black to show the public her white feathers. She is in our educational program.
Your picture is stunning. Thank you for sharing.
Skye Ryan-Evans replied
Hey There zookeeper, Thanks so much for sharing this with me. What a rare privilege for you to experience the companionship of this beautiful bird! I just moved a few hundred miles to a new job this month and haven’t been on the Bubble until now. But I wanted to share that 2 weeks ago, I discovered a black crow with 4 white wing feathers very near where I go to photograph Bald Eagles near my new home. Isn’t Nature wonderful? So wrought with miracles that come in all sizes and forms. I’ll upload at least one photograph of this fascinating Crow to my Bubble, as soon as I find the time lol Warmest wishes for your thoughtful comments, Skye :o-)
