Confessions of a Fungi Hunter (freeform poetry & video)

I don’t know their names
but I know where they live
and I know when they come out to play
usually on a sunny day
when the rain
has gone away…

Down on my knees
I look under trees, logs and leaves on the ground
they don’t make a sound
hoping they won’t be found
playing hide and seek
sometimes they peek
count to ten, I see their face
easy to spy
for my eagle eye
camera in hand I hasten my pace
to capture it’s colour, it’s beauty and grace
not all are so pretty
many ooze gunk
powder explodes
and all sorts of funk
fungi for me is like finding gold
and the thrill of the hunt never grows old
a trophy of nature
to look at
not hold

I love hunting fungi, yesterday and today were ideal conditions and I found many types around my property. I thought I’d share some of my Fungi Hunt photographs in a YouTube video I made, so if you have 3 minutes to spare, have a look at the wonderful world of fungi hunting at my place AND one of the biggest mushrooms I’ve ever seen…
