Today I finally made it to Granite Gorge! Well worth it and a great chance to get up close to some little Australian Rock Wallabies. Apparently these little fellows only live in a 30km radius from the Gorge. They sit around and let you get really close, this lovely lady is a Mum and her baby is neatly tucked in her pouch. Too cute! These are marsupials and very small, jumping with no trouble through the massive boulders that they live around.
Granite Gorge is a very special place, situated 15 kms west of Mareeba, right in the bushland, you do pay to go in and can buy feed but that’s pretty much it, it’s very rough and I wouldn’t recommend it for prams or the elderly. You are allowed to swim in the safe weir which has turtles and fish too. A lovely day out among nature. A great chance for locals, visitors or anyone from over seas to get up close with nature still in nature.
