Black Opal Pendant

Black Opal Pendant

This is hard to photograph because anywhere I was trying to had light that reflected back off it! Trying to capture the colour in the opal was tricky too.
My grandma bought me this lovely Australian Black Opal Pendant in 1980 when I was 12, I have had it put away all this time (29 years) and don’t ever think I have worn it, the docket is with it too, a precious piece of jewelery I will always treasure, my Gran having left this world now, leaving me with this stunning large heirloom Black Opal Pendant, opal being my October birthstone.

Black Opal Pendant belongs to the following groups:

It’s sad that our most precious items rarely leave the safety of their boxes. The perfect Star Sapphire bought for me in Ottawa a zillion years ago is one such. It cannot be replaced and so is never worn.
Your Opal is intrinsically beautiful, but someone special bought it for you and that elevates it to priceless.
A lovely stone and a precious memory.

stunning opal vanessa and brilliantly captured, gemstones are difficult to work with all that reflection and play of light, natural sunlight seems to be the best option so top of the class for you … it looks like a piece of crystal opal or is it a triplet it has a beautiful bezel setiing very secure…....would be such a shame to not wear it….....id insure it for sure as black opal per carat has gone up in the last 29yrs by quite a lot…...youd be vey surprised it can be in the 10s of K….per carat….........great work tho well done

  • Vanessa Barklay replied 5 days ago

Thanks alot mate, that might be a good idea, my Gran was no slouch in the $$ dept and knew what she was buying I’m sure, and would know this would have been top quality as an heirloom so you are correct, I will take it and get it valued…she would have expected nothing else from me, now I think about it…good advice. I had been trying for a nice shot for months on this, black opals can be quite temperamental from what I hear! :O) :O)
