Swimming Elephant

In the southern parts of India.. The elephants are trained on swimming across islands by their care takers so that they can save the cost of transportation. This is an Oil Pastel painting of one of the Photographs taken of an Elephant swimming between two islands.

I saw a feature on tv about this… Amazing, so is the art work.. My daughters God father is from INDIA and when we first met his wife was still there so he wanted me to write a poem for both of them and I did called new begining… They ask me how I knew so much on India and I just said it was what I remembered from reading… Still learning..

This is wonderful work!! The shading and hue are wonderful!!! I especially love it done in the black, greys and white! It also has a nice depth so that you really know what is happening!

what a fantastic experience it must be to ride a swimming elephant, the first time i rode an elephant it was on the ground, i was a young child and i was overwhelmed by its amazing power and movement, he was fashioned with a grand saddle and it was an experience i shall never forget. i really like your perspective in this beautiful work
