FNB Stadium - National Stadium (Soccer City) - The Crowd by

FNB Stadium, or The National Stadium (and formerly known as Soccer City).

Situated in Nasrec, Soweto, Johannesburg, in the province of Gauteng, South Africa.

26°14?5.27?S 27°58?56.47?E?

Night Shot.

Shot on the eve of the South Africa vs New Zealand TriNations Rugby Match. Final Score 29-22 in the favor of New Zealand. [2010 08 21].

FNB Stadium is currently the largest stadium in Africa since its capacity was increased to 94,700 for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

In July 2010, controversial future plans were announced to rename the stadium The National Stadium after the World Cup for international football and rugby matches.

This was resolved after a South Gauteng High Court decision that owing to a 2007 naming rights agreements with First National Bank, the stadium’s name would revert to FNB Stadium.

    Excellent composition and exposure.

  • The price for the shot … not going in to see the game!
Was it worth it ? Well maybe, as SA did not win the game …

Reminds me of one of ‘those images’ taken on a large format camera with multiple speed lights and vast pre-planning.

  • Pre-planning indeed …
[I was there getting setup & ready for the onslaught from before the game began, which was still daylight hours].
No artificial lights added though, well aside from those that are at the venue.

My thanks to the crowds …
albeit that they were mostly disgruntled, beacuse of the loss …
