    Hi Bill. This was taken about 50 yards east of the Badland Bird Bath on Geology tour road. I was in the bottom of a gully looking north.

    Rock climbers refer to them as dikes. Many Joshua Tree climbs follow these up vertical faces.

    I stand corrected Bill. I looked it up and it should be “rock dikes”. There are a lot of these in the park and most seem to be some type of quartz like rock. Some really interesting geology, but in most cases not really photogenic.
