18X24 Acrylic on Canvas: These guys were waiting for us just outside of Cairo. My wife took the initial photo and after thinking about it for 3 weeks I added 4 camels and a pyramid. The light on the sand dunes at sunset was awesome. I was laughing with these smiling camels the whole time. Little did I know that when the Jockey shows up they get very happy because he brings them treats and they actually put up their heads and smile.

I am semi retired and love to travel with my 9X12 #140 Strathmore pad, my Sharpie Ultra Fine ink pen and five or six sticks of pastels or acrylics to color in my “finds” Sometimes I get real lucky and my wife Dawn will take some pictures I can use later. I seem to always be able to give some kind of sketch to my subjects or those bystanders who desperately want to give me some advice.

I see now why you fussing about the saddles. I was thinking, “how hard can saddles be,” until I saw the details in these. Really a beautiful work Randy.

  • Thanks Jim, I will get them yet.

Must be seen large, and wow, I’d love to see it even larger. Your background shows magnificently even light— the kind a strong sun creates on a treeless terrain. That was the first thing that struck me, in your work in progress. I’m enamored with the whole scene of resting camels among the palms and the men. Those saddles and dark trees punctuate the artwork with their fine texture and color contrasts. Definitely, this is among my top favorites of your fabulous body of work, Randy.

  • Oh you really are too kind, I was laughing with these smiling camels the whole time. Little did I know that when the Jockey shows up they get very happy because he brings them treats and they actually put up their heads and smile.
