10X8 Pen & Ink Sketch Hit With Pastels on #140 Strathmore Water Color Paper: This continues to be my focus in Barcelona figures in the street. I just loved what the low angle of the early winter sun does to the light and how textures just pop and it inspired me to try and capture this.

I am semi retired and love to travel with my 9X12 #140 Strathmore pad, my Sharpie Ultra Fine ink pen and five or six sticks of pastels or acrylics to color in my “finds” Sometimes I get real lucky and my wife Dawn will take some pictures I can use later. I seem to always be able to give some kind of sketch to my subjects or those bystanders who desperately want to give me some advice.

    Terrific work.

  • Thanks buddy, I think this is the best one in the series so far, if not the waiter?

Oh, I like this a LOT, Randy. The expressions in the faces and the postures are wonderful. And that light, excellent. I love the glow on the column next to the men.

  • Thanks Fran, those shadows gave me fits, but the ink “notes’ I took on the back helped me, only 30 minutes to color with only 4 pastels when I got home.

Great how you captured the ‘relaxed’ stance of these two chaps, and excellent light and shade. Another masterpiece Randy!

  • Thank you so much my dear friend, now go party!

Such wonderful lighting and dimension is created in this piece, I love this :)))

  • Thanks again Elaine. I was up in your National Rain Forest 2 years ago; set a tent on top of 12 inches of pea gravel, then it rained 12 inches in 12 hours. I have never seen so much rain, even beat the monsoons in Korea!

Yes you had “wow” experience Randy! Washington is known for rain although it does not rain like that all the time. Hopefully you will visit sometime when it is dryer. Your art is delightful :)))

  • Thanks, I am still drying out my paint kit. LOL!
