30X30 inch Acrylic on Canvas: This just won 2nd Place in the National ACM Magazine Exhibition! I grew up on this lake and this dock and the kid on the left is kind of my alter ego. All my old friends on FaceBook have a found remembrances of this dock, the life guards’, fishing, and near downing’s they had here as kids in the 1950’s. In person it is a very large complex painting with lots of compositional “stuff” going on.

I am semi retired and love to travel with my 9X12 #140 Strathmore pad, my Sharpie Ultra Fine ink pen and five or six sticks of pastels or acrylics to color in my “finds” Sometimes I get real lucky and my wife Dawn will take some pictures I can use later. I seem to always be able to give some kind of sketch to my subjects or those bystanders who desperately want to give me some advice.

  • Thanks Jazzy I grew up on this lake and dock and in many ways that kid on the left is may alter ego. Funny how you look back to find what’s really important.

This is very special. The clouds, lighting, and the natural poses of the kids. I like the edge of the lake with homes on it too.

  • Thanks Maryanne3. I remember your Suger Shack in the snow, with the very limited palete.

Randy it’s Bloody brilliant work from you ….I love it!

  • Thanks Mate, I have been remiss in keeping in touch. How the hell are you anyway? I’ve now partially retired so I may get down to your little Island and race a sail boat someday soon.

I now see what you meant by it was challenging you, but it sure paid off. This is absolutely one of your very best. Fantastic job Randy. If this one doesn’t receive a ton of features, somebody’s not paying attention.

  • Well it’s still got a ways to go but I am happy with the directions it’s taking. I just had to stop awhile and reflect. It makes me wonder what other important “stuff” I should be painting. I thought that the multiple figures strong out all over the canvas was the biggest challenge just as compositional elements..
