Peggy's Cove #1

Peggy's Cove #1

33X21 Pen and Ink Study hit with Water Color Wash & Acrylics on Arches 140#
Water Color Paper: Maybe 1 hour with a very unforgiving medium as the evening fog rolled in and frostbite set in. I used a natural sea sponge in the sky. I may try this later as I have a ton of photos. What a neat place on the edge of Nova Scotia

Nice use of all the mediums. I sometimes like to do a watercolour and then use acrylics white and black to do the highlights and shadows only. Beautiful work Randy.

  • Randy Sprout replied

Thanks, it was just too damn cold to continue after the fog rolled in. My Ca. blood is very thin. I think I’ll go back in the morning and try again. I love your golf course afternoon light. Made me wonder why I’m still working real estate.

Congratulations on the feature Randy. This is a lovely piece of artwork, especially the sky.

  • Randy Sprout replied

Thanks, Lynda. I was so cold after the fog rolled in I just had to stop. Maybe that is why it has some immediacy behind it. Anyway, it’s just a quick sketch. When I get back to sunny CA, I have tons of pictures of this place to paint.

Scenes of Peggy’s Cove were/are an inspiration, many years ago, This piece shows why it is such an inspiration.

Excellent mixed media work here, Randy.
Conveying a nice essence of the harbour scene.
Watercolour is such hard work – (but satisfying when it behaves!), isn’t it?

  • Randy Sprout replied

Thanks Colin and I can’t get it to work nearly like you can. It’s realy a struggle for me compared to my trusted acrylics, where if I don’t like something, one brush stroke and it’s gone.

Thanks Karon, I really loved the Montana Winter Morning of yours, even the proportions of the sky were Montana.

    Brilliant artwork Randy,
l often use mixed mediums, my freind Brian Towers always says” if it works why not use it” !!!

  • Randy Sprout replied

Thanks George, it was more a matter of frustration and cold with my water colors just not getting the job done.
