Ferndale Creek 20X20 Acrylic on Canvas

I wanted this to be a combination of Albrect Durer’s clod of earth and Vasarely’s fingerprint. This little creek runs just a block North of my house in Griffith Park and is feed year round by a fresh water spring. The Indians used to camp here and from time to time after a rain we will find arrowheads here.

Well done Randy….Having used Acrylics in the past I can apreciate what you went through when a painting just “won’t work” and you need inspiration. Some times we end up, as you did, with a painting completely different to what we started out to do and yet, the results often surprise us when we have managed to capture the true beauty of the subject.

I love what you have done here and feel that anyone would be proud to hang it in their home.

Randy-so masterly Just perfect .I want to paint like this

  • Randy Sprout replied

Hha! Well it wasn’t good enough for the California Art Club. So I just keep painting them and putting them away in my basement. I wanted this to be an Albrecht Dürer clod of dirt with a Victor Vasarely water reflection. But only you and I seem to get that?

Randy you have to leave the club politics to the politicians.
Maybe a bit of jealousy there. I know how they feel.

Thanks Ted, with you in my corner, who cares. Now Lynda likes it and I’m on top of the world. I spent hours and hours on the side of this creek about 1 block North of my home and was totally frustrated the whole time, until now.

THIS IS STUNNING Randy!!! Love your handling of the water. (BTW Albrecht Durer’s ‘clod’ is one of my all time favourite paintings)!!!!

  • Randy Sprout replied 6 days ago

We need to start a new appreciation group for clod and beetle lovers! I am so overjoyed that you like this. I spent hours here trying to make fall leaves float and sky reflect. I love my redbubble friends! Who else can tell me something that makes me so happy?

LOL Randy! You did a GREAT job on those floating leaves and that reflecting sky! I’m sure Mr. Durer and Mr. Vasarely will be smiling down on you from somewhere!
