The Moment
Okay, so there I was in my little kayak slowly cruising near the Pali (cliffs) of Maui, when out out the shallow water came the biggest fish I have ever seen! I must have pee’d in my pants. My camera was in my hands already, but the auto-focus was jumping all over the place. It was sort of a slow-motion nightmare, except that it was really cool after I realized that this hummer wasn’t actually going to land in my teeny little boat.
I managed to get one photo. Whew.

I would have been so scared but exhilarated at the same time. A fab capture of this rare opportunity. An instant fav. Well done.
Danielle Knight
I would have dropped the camera and no doubt fallen out of my kayak… fantastic capture. It looks so close to the shore??? Amazing. Instant fav as well.

Excellent shot… Good thing you survived it too… I went diving once and this huge humpback whale surfaced next to the boat, then dived under the boat… We were all scared it would decide to surface again right under us… Scary stuff, but beautiful animals!

You guys are funny!
BTW, that little spot is not his eyeball. This guy,s eyeball is way back next to the fin. This is only about 1/4 of the whale, at best. Does anyone want to come out with me? I have a couple of top Adobe dudes lined up in early March. ~r

So awesome!!! I think one of my favorite times in my life was going whale watching in a little Zodiac off of Maui…and a whale and her baby swam directly underneath our little boat, and came up on the other side, getting us wet with her spouting…and wouldn’t you know, I didn’t have my camera with me!!! :) It was terrifying, but amazing and magical, too!!! Anyway….this is a beautiful shot!!! :)
