This is a bit of NZ history. This is a scanned silver gelatin photo of my paternal grandfather, Edward Sanders, in the years immediately before his death in mid-1911. Photographer unknown.
He died in a Kauri logging accident in Northland, 1911, not far from his home in Toka Toka. He was crushed beneath a bullock-train of Kauri logs, when my father was a few months old.
I have a photocopy of his death certificate, courtesy of the fabulous “Kauri Museum” in Northland – well worth a visit if you are in Auckland or places north of it!
The trees around him are Nikau Palms (a unique NZ native).
