This is very good Ranald. Bleak, poignant…. you really felt this didn’t you?

  • Thanks Stuart. I guess I did. It has to be one of the most photographed memorials in the country. Usually the landscape is shown but I decided not to.

Great work Ranald. I agree with Stuart. The darkness of the shot just adds to the message and shows up the futility of war. (Why am I being nice to you?)

  • Thanks Andy. The darkness is deliberate and meant to reflect the covert missions undertaken. No doubt you’re being nice because you know Scotland will get humped (again) next week!

  • Oh and yes, the futility of war. Will we never learn?

great work on this Ranald, i must have dozens of this memorial, but this is the best i’ve seen.

  • Thanks Terry. As I said to Stuart, it’s one of the most photographed and I chose not to show the landscape.

You picked the right perspective and the bluish b&w to bring over the poignant message. Really good work!

  • Thank you Kasia. Thanks for the favourite also.

  • Thnaks Spencer. It must be one of the most photographed monuments in the country. Glad you think so highly of my effort.

Terrific tribute to a breed, a generation, who gave so much. Wonderful shot against that stormy sky. Really shows that you are a master in any light. (Just an aside: WHISPER … a fair portion of my 2010 novel draws heavily on the SOE, or Churchill’s Secret Army, as they were known.)
