The road to California is supposed to be paved with Gold. But these days the road to California is paved with poppies and lots of them. Even the railroad tracks are paved with poppies. This has been an amazing Spring for wild flowers here in Wheatland in the Northern part of California.

The town where we live is not large…there are no major attractions here…though there is a wonderful pumpkin farm here. But we are blessed with some beautiful spring flowers and fall brings migrations of water fowl and of course pumpkin season.

Taken near Wheatland in Northern California with a Canon Rebel XSi with a 55-250mm lens.

Yes these tracks are periodically used so I was lucky to get the shots that I did.

As a teen and young man he spent many years helping his Grandfather and then Father mine for gold in the stunning hills of Southern Oregon. He then spent a career in the service of his country. He was lucky enough to get to see a portion of this beautiful planet and develop an appreciation for the differences and sameness of the peoples of the world.

  • Thank you so much Charlene!
I just wish I had gotten out there a couple of days earlier when the flowers were even brighter. This is the longest I have ever seen them left on the tracks….it is pretty cool.

I am also a fan of poppies. I have loved them since I grew up on the coast and they were a part of every spring.

I was going to name this “The road to California is paved with Gold!” But Linda reminded me poppies are really more of an orange color…but I see gold and so do you….cool!

I am just a big fan or poppies. They don’t last for very long so you have to catch them while they are in there glory.

When I first started Northern California Style I was using a shot of poppies as the Avatar because I agree…they say California to me too.

Poppies are so wonderful…possibly because as you say they don’t last very long so we only have a little bit of time to enjoy them.
