Wandering in rural Washington state in October, one can find all sorts of fun things. In particular, at this time of year, mushrooms are in abundance—everywhere. These were found growing inside a stump in my goat yard.

I am many things. I am a goat farmer, a wife, a jewelry maker, a procrastinator, a space cadet, an old woman, a wanderer, but most importantly, here I am an artist with a camera.
a friend of mine who has goats often lets me go and forage on her property. Always fun to see what is hidden there.I think these are Velvet Foot or Flammulina velutipes……a cold-weather mushroom. Not positive since there looks to be a bit of a tip on the caps…….whatever they are though, they’re a treasure!
Thanks again for the info—sounds like you know your fungi!

Great find Kathleen , they do pop up in fun places.
Thanks. I’m lucky to have a pretty ‘wild’ yard for my goats—I’m always finding things to shoot photos of.
