Turned a bit colder here,
there’s snow on the fens,
they said on the radio,
frozen sheep and backed up cars trailed like icy rivers
caught in still light on Howl Moor
with the sun going down,
light fading to the moon
and silver to show the footsteps of the lost,
the drivers and the sheep
caught together in some old-time postcard
showing rural life without motion

Evokes a winter’s memory. I can feel the silence. Like a beautiful memory carved as image xo

I was talking to a friend on the phone, he said “getting colder here, there’s snow on the Pennines.” and the rest just wrote itself. I was once on Howl Moor alone at midnight in dense snow and a full moon – it was eerily awesome. Poetry is fun because you can just bring all these things together.

    thank you Maureen :)
