right away, it isnt the easiest to discern that the focus of this photograph is a chair, due to the way the light is shining on it. you can only really see the seat, the legs, and the shine off the of the arm of the chair, as well as the slight outline. But because the light is so bright and is broken into rays because of the obstruction in the window, the eye almost wants to just look into the light, to see what is sitting in the window. Then, at the same time, you have these faded silhouettes of other pieces of furniture to the right of the beam of light, which also draw your attention thanks to curiosity. but the angle of the chair is set perfectly, showing enough so that you can figure out what it is, and hiding enough so that you have to keep looking.

My head goes everywhere when I see images like this. The strong spiritual light, the large comfortable, inviting chair, the contrast between black and white… you’ve given us an eye full that goes straight to the heart. Perfect composition, wonderful, wonderful subject. Bravo!!!

I love this haunting image. I love all your images actually but this one is like a portrait of someone who didn’t turn up. A person that once was in a place that once was.

Now my mind is trying to picture what the person who didn’t front up may have looked like. It’s either someone very very young or very very old but not in between.

someone very very old would be accurate

Someone perhaps who lived in that cottage in its original location before it was dismantled & reassembled in Cultra. The reason they aren’t in the chair might be because either the chair doesn’t belong to the original cottage or it has been put in the wrong place or wrong room. Like the old adage…every picture tells a story…but your images tell really good ones.

That explains it. That poor old ghost has nowhere to sit.
