Sitting Pretty on a Sunflower by

There’s a beautiful sunflower field that blooms every September just down the road from my house in southwest Ohio. I’ve always wanted to get some great shots of it, but usually I forget until it’s too late. This year I was determined that I wasn’t going to miss it. So one morning I loaded up my gear and headed down there. A lot of other people were taking photographs too, many with small children amongst the flowers. I spent about an hour or so shooting all different angles of the flowers. Bees and butterflies were quite busy. I followed this particular butterfly all around the field. No matter how long I waited, it refused to fully open its wings so I gave in and captured a profile. :)

Beautiful detail and color. We had a field of sunflowers nearby. I must have taken about 100 photos.

  • Thanks, Ken! There’s a sunflower field that blooms every September just down the road from my house, next to a small garden center. I drive by it all the time and have always wanted to get some good shots. A couple of years ago, I took some but it was really too late in the day and they were just so blah that I trashed all of them. This year, I made sure I went in the morning (it was between 9 and 10am) and took my polarizing filter. I took about 200 shots in about an hour or so. I was very happy with the way they turned out this time and really liked about 10-12 shots. This is the seventh one I’ve posted on redbubble. I have a few more to add soon. If you are interested in seeing the ones currently in my portfolio, I just added a link in the description above and two clickable images over on the right.
