The story is ‘Daughters of Hralln’, by C.L. Rossman. It really is a good story. I just fell in love with the concept of these people when I read it!
also in color (see my gallery)
Medium is ink. I almost just sent these in without a color version. In fact I wasn’t sure they would look as good with color. Turns out the color versions look just as good, though in a different way. I must admit I am quite proud of my inkwork. In the past I’ve done some inking (self-taught) and very often shied away from brushwork in favor of the more controlled pen (used to use a large Micron but I’ve discovered Faber-Castell makes one now; the medium nib is actually larger than the micron was!). But for Hralln I immediately knew that this was the time to dive into brushwork because that loose, uneven line would give the Tautschen and their world that organic feeling. A lot of detail was still done with pen, but I found with that particular texture in mind, I was not afraid to use the brush anymore.
