Artist's Description

In reality it is unlikely that the Romans would have allowed the forest to grow up this close to the fortress walls but it makes an evocative picture anyway. Saalberg is a reconstructed Roman Fortress on the Limes line. Built under Hadrian it is reconstructed as it would have been in the late 2nd century.
