Biologists can be artists too. For over 25 years I’ve been exploring ways to interpret the landscape through the twin perspectives of dance and photography. Technically speaking, my work ranges from high resolution B&W prints to moderately photoshopped digital images. I especially like the way that somewhat diffuse images tend to “pop” at just the right viewing distance for the print, much like many watercolor paintings do. I’m very excited about my new project coming up this spring in Italy called “Dancing the Appian Way.” It involves a dance interpretation of the ruins and monuments along the ancient highway from Rome to Brindisi. (All of the dance images shown here were made in the landscape- not cut and pasted.)
