I loved all the wild flowers growing in the remains of the Forum in Rome, especially the poppies as they are so often used to remind us of fallen soldiers and those who have long since died. The poppies were everywhere, growing up through the fallen stones. New life colonising the ruins.“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them."
Fourth stanza of ‘For the Fallen’ by Laurence Binyon
