Winter's Price

The stocky trees, they stand alone
All sullen, dark and forlorn

Their branches reach for the stars
And the blood red light of distant mars

The darkness shows their great pain
It’s cold, cold winter once again

The Earth is covered in a ghostly costume
The Earth is as quiet as an unvisited tomb

The flowers have died
The animals tremble and hide

From Mother Winters grin
And her deadly kin

As snow quietly falls
Death quietly calls

Only he can be merry
He has many souls to carry

The survivors all huddle, quiver, and shake
They lay down to sleep and most never wake

Mother Winter lovingly covers you in a blanket of snow
In return for her love your life you owe

Artist's Description

One night i couldn’t sleep and i gazed out over the moonlit landscape with the scraggly trees and felt it was a harsh season (winter). Our simple yard made me think of older days when there weren’t warm houses with heat and protection against the cold. And of places where even today people succumb to the cold.
