Swamp Darner
We barely ever see Dragonflies in our backyard, so this was a treat. Sadly, my father spotted it being attacked by a hornet. He decided to stomp on the hornet and save the Dragonfly but it was stung several times. Later that day it died but I was able to test out my macro lense. No fancy set up or extensions. It was getting dark so you can see the reflection of my flash. I took many shots and here it is on the tip of my thumb so you can understand it’s actual size. It was about 3.75 inches.
I proceeded to look up the species and the Swamp Darner is what I came up with. According to the reference pictures it was an exact match.
Swamp Darner belongs to the following groups:
** Super Macro Photography (Two Per Day ), 1:1 Macro Photography (Limit: 2 posts per 24 hour period) and Backyard Macro and Closeups (3 a day)
