He’s beautiful! Are these guys venomous at all?

Not really, apparently mildly, might give you a headache thats about it.

They don’t bite often though, frog eaters.

Colubrid it is. Green Tree Snake. Gorgeous animals.

They do have large eyes thats for sure. When there born they are massively disproportionate to their head its quite a sight!

This is one very attractive and unusual snake and you have photographed it very well with good use of depth of field making the head stand out well and creating a very nice bokeh.
You have the serpent in a very good position, you have caught the eye well and it has a great catchlight, the lighting and exposure are very good and the focus is nice and sharp.

Beautiful Snake Steve, I’ve only seen a blue morph once but not as blue as this. The grey and gren morphs still show the “blue” or yellow underscale color when inflating, This is a nice snake, love it!

Great reponse to this photo, I’ve been bitten by quite a few of these colubrid’s when first handled, they always settle down though once handled. Never had the sightest reaction from them and never really worried about picking them up. Funny though I had a tiny black bellied swamp snake (elapid) give me a nip once that caused a local reaction significant compared to a large(ish) green tree snake. Anyway you’ve probabley been told this before but you have the most consistantly beautiful reptile shots I’ve even seen. It’s a real nack to photograph them in an intersting way and show their true beauty. Keep up the great work!

All the info above about this and other snakes is extremely interesting. I had never heard of let alone seen these snakes before although it would not surprise me that a few have seen me in my travels. 8-)

I’m a liitle more nervous but have rescued a few Red Bellies and even Rough Scales, but I won’t go near an eastern brown if I can help it! The little swap snakes seem quite common around Coffs as are two crowns (Dwarf and White), fortunately I don’t see many browns just here. Your correct thoihj that most Auusie snakes (Rough scale excluded) are not naterally aggressive! Looking forward to seeing more of your work.

Nice shot mate. Maybe I can get as good someday – I have some of them living in the wall backing onto my house. I can watch the snake while I have a shower (in summer, anyway).

But mine’s not quite as pretty as yours. Mine is yellow tending to brown/green on top. I think they get more like yours further north.
