Black Widow

Black Widow

This is a Black Widow . I found her hanging out under my truck last summer when I was watering the front yard. Frist I need to let ya’ll know that I really really hate spiders off all kinds much less one as deadly as this one is !!! What I did next was run into the house and got my camera to take pictures of her !!! I know I was shock when I realized what I was doing !!! lol lol . Over the next few days i had taken a few photos of her but then i was also noticing that she was getting bigger !!! That means babies where soon to be here , so I had to find out what I could get to get ride of her before that could happen!!! I was able to do just that ..get rid of her before we have a whole lot of them running around here…I have grand kids so I couldn’t let that happen …But for the time she was here I got some great photos of her and this is one of them ,,,, Its creepy but I hope you enjoy them ! Thanks

This was taken in Odessa, Texas at my home with a Panasonic FZ50.

    Patricia Anne ...

wow nice work.. I am sad she had to die, but… we can’t have a toxic animal like that around kids, tho they are very toxic, most adults will live through a widow’s bite but children won’t. There is only 2 other spiders that i know of that kill like she does, one is the funnel spider, very aggressive nasty thing, one would not want to take photos of that thing with out know about it, they have fangs that can go right threw your fingernail. The other is the brown racluce, they live in wood piles.

This is a lovely shot , I love how you can see the red hour glass under the belly.

  • Carla Jensen replied

Thank you so very much …Patricia !! for your wonderful comment and info on the other spiders . I new about the brown racluce as we have those here in this area as for the funnel spider i am not sure ..I guess I better look it up , its sound like it is the nastest one of the 3 !!

  • Patricia Anne McCarty

    Patricia Anne ...

It is, but they don’t live here in this country, they live in Australia in Syndey. (sp) hopefully that’s where they will stay. if you do look it up, it’ll give you nightmares! lol

  • Carla Jensen replied

Well thats good , one less to worry about here! lol lol I will take your word on it , really don’t want to have nightmares!!! lol lol

  • DaveBassett

    DaveBassett

Nice macro – really well taken. I’ll bet you had a worry getting rid of it – a bit small for a shotgun.

The last time I tried to photograph an Australian redback it disappeared mid shoot. I had a few anxious moments until I found it I can tell you.

  • Carla Jensen replied

Thank you very much…..Dave!!! for both the wonderful comment and the laugh!!!! I was laughing at me trying to shoot the thing and doing no harm to it but shooting up my truck trying to hit the thing! LOL LOL LOL

An amazing shot!! I have a bit of a fear of bees, yet I found myself with about 50 macro shots of them LOL Funny what having a camera in your hand will do to you! But that is an excellant shot, especially since you can see the hourglass.

  • Carla Jensen replied

Thank you so very much….matinak!! for you wonderful comment!! I know what you mean lol lol I catch myself doing the same thing all the time now as in this case. To where before I would have freaked out and ran the other way !! lol
