Sisters Watching

Peggy Selander

White Bear Lake, United States

Artist's Description

Sisters Watching was inspired by an old black and white photograph from the 1800’s. I feel I captured the inquisitive look on the girl’s faces. The younger sister, a bit fearful of the camera before her, leans into her older sibling for security. These little girls watched over me while I painted them. I feel as though I know them.
Howard Terpning is one of my favorite artists. If you can see his influence in my work, I thank you. Although every artist must develop his/or her own style; and I feel as though I definately have done that in the last 5 years, but it is Terpning’s work that continues to inspire me and push me onward.
