While researching a photographic trip to New Zealand’s South Island, I discovered images of this church on Lake Tekapo. I knew from looking at maps that the light at sunset would provide the most suitable lighting for the shot.
On arrival to this location I discovered that the church is a very popular tourist attraction. A steady stream of tourist buses were constantly arriving with many visitors eager to photograph the church. I set up for the shot and patiently waited as the constant stream of tourists arrived and departed.
I knew I only had a very limited time to take the shot when the sun was setting. Just prior to taking the shot a bus load of soccer fans jumped out and started posing for photos and playing soccer right in front of me. However they left as quickly as they had arrived. I looked around and to my surprise I had a clear shot of the church I took the opportunity and captured the shot just as the sun was setting behind me.
