Murray Reynolds Falls Big Summer Splash by

This photo was taken on August 15th, 2009. A Canon EOS 10D DSLR camera was used through a Canon EF 35-350mm f/3.5-5.6L telephoto zoom lens @ 95mm focal length. The shutter speed was 1/250th sec at f/4.5. The camera’s ISO was set to 100. A Manfrotto tripod was used with a remote shutter release cable.

Murray Reynolds Falls is is the first waterfall on the the Falls Trail, not far from the point called “Waters Meet” in Ricketts Glen State Park. The water was a bit muddy because there had been several extremely heavy rainstorms shortly before my trip. The falls were flowing very vigorously and putting on quite a show!

This image was captured in Ricketts Glen State Park, in the north eastern region of Pennsylvania, USA. This scene can be found about a mile north of the parking area on State Route RT 118 (near the village of Red Rock).

Hello, My name is Gene. I live in the Susquehanna river valley (West Branch), in the mountains of north central Pennsylvania. I strive to produce photographic images that are simply “true” to the subject, usually with minimal post processing. If something is beautiful or interesting enough to deserve a viewer’s attention, it justifies being captured just as it is …or as close to reality as possible.

Oh, yes… summer. This is a beauty, Gene ~ Nature’s architecture at its finest!

  • Kindest thanks, Sheila! This waterfall is a real favorite of mine. I am always amazed to see the way the center column of stone has been allowed to remain standing, as the gushing waters have rushed past it for uncounted centuries. It truly is one of Mother Nature’s architectural marvels.

    Kindest wishes,

    Gene

A well thought out composition is evident in this beauty. You caught the water an an optimum moment with the splashing and crashing action at the bottom revealing the power of the water and the mesmerizing beauty it creates. Nice one Gene.

  • Thank you very kindly, Dave! I usually like to shoot waterfalls with a much longer exposure, but the bright sun and a constant breeze demanded a faster shutter speed for this one. I’m glad you like the way that revealed the action of the splashing water here.

    Best regards,

    Gene
