The photo was taken on September 13th, 2012 with a Canon EOS 30D, through a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro lens. The aperture was set to f/2.8 with a shutter speed of 1/2000 sec.
The butterfly was captured on Emerald Isle …just off the mainland shores of southern North Carolina, USA. This a Gulf Fritillary Butterfly, a non-migratory relative of the Monarch and Queen species, with the scientific name of “Agraulis vanillae”.
