Lovin' The Leaves On The Lower Falls Trail (as-is) by

It was getting late and I was still less than half way through Ricketts Glen at this point. I was rushing back upstream to begin shooting all of the waterfalls on the eastern branch of Kitchen Creek (I had already completed all of the Ganoga Glen shots). However, when I approached this leaf covered stretch of the lower Falls Trail, I just had to stop to catch one quick shot of this wonderful autumn view. This spot is located just below to the Waters Meet point.

This photograph is “straight from the camera”, untouched. It was simply converted from RAW format to JPEG in Photoshop, without any enhancements or alterations.

The photo was captured in late afternoon on October 18th, 2011. The shot was taken with a Canon 30D DSLR, through a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L lens at the 23mm focal length. The shutter speed was 1.3 seconds @ f/13. The camera’s ISO was set to 125. The camera was mounted on a Manfrotto tripod, with a Manfrotto 222 Pistol Grip head. A remote shutter release cable was also used.

Ricketts Glen is near the small village of Red Rock, PA, at the junction of Pennsylvania State Routes 118 and 487. The park is about midway between Williamsport and Wilkes Barre Pennsylvania, in the north eastern region of the USA.

Hello, My name is Gene. I live in the Susquehanna river valley (West Branch), in the mountains of north central Pennsylvania. I strive to produce photographic images that are simply “true” to the subject, usually with minimal post processing. If something is beautiful or interesting enough to deserve a viewer’s attention, it justifies being captured just as it is …or as close to reality as possible.

I sure do miss getting out into the woods!! Love this! So peaceful…love just listening to the wind, and the birds sing!

  • …no wind this day, but the birds were singing up a storm (even though many of them had already flown south already). This is one of the few sections of the trail where you don’t hear the roar of waterfalls. It was amazingly peaceful, especially after taking so many falls photos up to this point in the day.

    Kindest wishes,

    Gene

What a lovely capture of autumn hues, Gene. Your composition with the trail leading into the woods is, of course, terrific. (fav)

  • Thank you very kindly, Jan! Even though I was rushing to get to the next waterfall site, I just had to stop here for a quite moment. The view was too pretty to pass by without a photo of it.

Thanks a bunch for the “FAV”, too!

Hey, have you been seeing the northern lights recently up there? I’ll bet they are really stunning to see from your latitude.

    Kindest regards,

    Gene
